would you trust Alan Greenspan on Immigration and Econ?

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan is arguing that the most effective solution to the housing downturn is for the United States admit more "skilled immigrants" who would earn enough to buy houses and stabilize the housing market.
The most effective initiative, though politically difficult, would be a major expansion in quotas for skilled immigrants,' he said. The only sustainable way to increase demand for vacant houses is to spur the formation of new households. Admitting more skilled immigrants, who tend to earn enough to buy homes, would accomplish that while paying other dividends to the U.S. economy.

I don't disagree with Green weeney. But his approach doesn't make much sense to me.

The USA needs more people like we need a hole in our head. We have allowed far too many poor people to come here legally. We also have allowed far too many people to come here ILLEGALLY.

Add to that, the people we admit who are poorer types with little or no education ...are 50% from Mexico. This imbalances us politically, culturally ( can't speak English and don't/can't learn to do so). Add to that the myriad of other problems of immigration legal and otherwise and you have disaster about to strike.

In my area, the list of those who have lost their homes in the Mortgage meltdown are 75% Hispanic names. Legal? Illegal? Who know?

Economic solutions make more sense to me. Limit ALL immigration to pre 1965 levels and let in only highly educated, workers who can bring greater prosperity and will contribute sooner than those who come poverty stricken. In the early years of the 1900 only 300K peeps were permitted annually. NOW we legally admit roughly a million plus. Add to this another million a year annually of Illegals. 8 of 10 being Mexicanos, add to that the legal Mexicanos..

This is insanity. We DON'T need more people. The ones' we DO need should be razor sharp and well healed or who can serve our nation in some critical ways.
